From The Coach
The M.V.R.H.S. Girl's Ice Hockey Program has separated from its previous GEMIHL affiliation along with 11 other schools to form the Southeastern Massachusetts Girl's Ice Hockey League. The league is split into North and South Conferences with the South Conference consisting of Falmouth, Sandwich, Duxbury, Barnstable, Nauset and the Vineyard. We will be playing each of these teams home and away. The teams from the North are Westwood, Canton, Franklin, Quincy, Hingham and Latin Academy. We play them once each season alternating location each year.
In addition to the solid core of seven returning players, 3 Seniors, 2 Juniors and 2 Sophomores, the Girls' team will have 8 Freshman, the highest number ever. This is attributable to the feeder program, MV Youth Hockey, providing some experienced players to draw on to fill the vacancies left by graduating Seniors. The ninth graders from Youth Hockey are joined by 2 Sophomores from our JV program. Goal tending will be covered by '04-'05 League All Star Jen Ward and newcomer Laura Jarnagan (one of the eight freshman). With a twenty game season and rigorous practice schedule (including 5:30am) the commitment required by the players and coaches is significant and the rewards are great.
The Coaching Staff also has a new addition this year. Michelle Brymer will be joining the program as an Assistant Coach. Michelle played her High School Hockey with the boys in Rhode Island and after winning a spot as a walk on with the Northeastern Women's Team went with them to win the ECAC Championship in '97. Returning coaches include, JV Coach Gene Townes, Goalie Coach Andre Bonnell, Skills Coach Rob Searle, and Skating and Conditioning Coach Beth Blankenship.
As always we appreciate all the support we receive from the High School, the Boosters Club and the general Vineyard population including Businesses and Individuals. We are looking forward to a great season. Come and Cheer us on!

Welcome to the 2005-2006 Girl's Ice Hockey Season. This should be an exciting season as we face some new teams as well as some old. We also have many new players joining our core of 8.
We are looking forward to the NAN RHEAULT TOURNAMENT January 21st and 22nd. This year the Varsity and Junior Varsity will be participating in the weekend event. Nan Rheault continues to support Girls' Ice Hockey and we are very appreciative for all she does for the program.
Community participation and support is one of the contributing factors of our success of this program. Our families, parents, friends, fans and players work tirelessly to do the best they can. We especially THANK the Coaching Staff. Their guidance, teamwork, fair play on and off the ice contribute to the success of the girls in hockey and also in life.

Welcome to another exciting season of Vineyard Hockey! Martha's Vineyard has a proud tradition of athletic programs, which dates back to well before the opening of the Regional High School in 1959. We have been among the smallest high schools in the Commonwealth, but have achieved an extraordinary record of state championships, ranking us among the best in the state. As we grow in size and face increasing levels of competition, we will seek to maintain our high level of academic and athletic excellence.
Thank you for the generosity of our six communities in supporting these important activities for our young people. It is also due to the extraordinary dedication of students, parents, coaches and teachers that we continue our success.
